People (Dan) have been complaining about the lack of new posts, so here you go. This has been an interesting week so far, my afternoons have been completely different than my mornings. Monday started out great, with sun, a delayed English test... an overall good Monday. Hung around in the parking lot, had some fun with those zip-tie things that you cant get off without a knife... heh. Drove around for a bit enjoying the weather, and lets just say that my day went downhill from there. Bah. Overall, it was a 7. The morning was really great, the afternoon was pretty bad for a few hours.

Today got off to a really bad start, with rain and a bad cold. Classes were boring to the point where I wished I had a pillow. We had a sub in Chemistry because Skoog decided not to show up, but he didn't leave lesson plans, so we did less than usual during third period, and that's saying something. The whole day went slow, ran out of Tylenol after two doses, so things were not going well. Still, after school wasn't bad. After checking in back home, I went back to school and picked up Ashlie and McKenzie, we went to Baskin Robins and then to the train station so McKenzie could get back to Montana for college. Orchestra concert tonight was... just as expected. Enough said. Uggh. But overall, today was probably a 5. Not a bad afternoon, the morning sucked.
Hopefully tomorrow will get better.

Have to make the most of Friday, since its supposed to be sunny and warm, and its one of my few afternoon/evenings to actually do something, I'll be gone for a week from Saturday to Saturday over break looking at colleges in New York, I'll post about those either while I'm away or after I return. Maybe I'll post before I leave, maybe not.

New links today. Disclaimer: the humor section is intended for amusemnt. It's humor. If you are easily offended or dont understand the concept of someone else's opinion, don't complain to me! Anyway, I helped a few people start blogs, I'll put up the links... um... when I can remember what they are.

Word of caution: DONT DRINK THE SCHOOL MILK! So every day since the grape juice bleached Dan's pants (no joke, purple-ish juice turned them white) I trade my juice for Kevin's milk. I drank my first milk today with no problems, so I figured the second one was safe. WRONG! It was a bit chunky, with the smell of green olives and the taste of liquid death. Gagged on it for a few good minutes. As it turns out, a bunch of schools in Seattle are pulling the milk because of health concerns, Darigold has workers locked out, so I guess quality control got the shaft. From now on, I'm taking two juices. They can fight me for them if they really want to.

Here's another rant: Cellphones. It seems people can use cell phones to violate my "Don't be dumb" principle in new and creative ways. For example, of the last 13 text messages I have recieved, 10 of them were blank and from the same person. Since I have no way of finding out who has 360-433-5765 as their number, I have no way of collecting the 50 cents of messaging charges they owe me. Therefore, anyone who feels bored can feel free to prank call that number whenever they want to. If that's your number, either explain the blank messages or pay the 50 cents and I'll take down your number. Other cell phone complaints: people who have them, but dont turn them on. Ok, so there are places where this is understandable, like movies, plays, concerts, while sleeping, on dates, blah blah blah... but after saying "call me on my cell if you need anything" is not a good time to turn it off. People without cell phones are also annoying, but I realize that's rarely their fault.

Hmm... I gotta start posting more often! Where to start... last week kinda sucked. We had jazz band stuff Thursday and Friday nights, but that didn't stop us from going to a movie on Friday. I spent most of the day at Skyview on Saturday helping at the drum/dance show and doing the chem lab...

First the chem lab... ugh. The good part was that Skoog did show up (on time, too!) and he let us use the teacher's guide for the procedure. It took forever (3 1/2 hours) but it wasn't really that hard. About 3 hours into the lab, Skoog looks at his watch and decides to go to Burger King, leaving us in the lab. We were just finishing, but still, wouldn't exactly leave that room unlocked and unsupervised.

The drum/dance show was not good. Well, there were some really good parts, got to see some old friends and hang out with band people (different from other days how??). I helped a bit with the sound, playing music for groups and in breaks. The system overheated once, the head judge kept coming back and screaming, and the CD player died during Northern Lights' show (the one 'professional' level group... meh.) Got home around 11:15, it was a long day.

Sunday, I did nothing besides sleep, homework, and pressure washing. Earned $16. Go me.

Today was one of the best Mondays I've had in months. Seriously, it was almost like a Friday. Today is my first day of driving passengers, so I went out to lunch with Ashlie... and my spot was still there when I got back! Fourth period was supposed to be a test, but it was postponed to tomorrow, yay! It was sunny and warm, so today was shorts day. (Tomorrow may just be shorts and sandals, who knows. I havent got the memo yet.) After school, we were all kinda bored, so we went to ICR (Ice Cream Renaissance, for the slow ones in the crowd, quite possibly the best ice cream place in Vancouver.) I probably owe someone an apology for what happened during the rest of the afternoon, we (well, I, suppose I can't promise for the rest of them) won't show up anymore when your boss is there... I think Jesse owes you now!) Hahaha... I realize that last part made sense to very few people, but oh well.

What else is there to say... here's a link! Do the Dew!

They put up a sign today on Fruit Valley, warning about long delays because of the construction... from April until November. Hmm... looks like its time to find a new route into downtown Vancouver! They tried to fill the potholes with dirt, that's going to last a good three days at most. Oh well, I've got used to dodging them by now, they'll all get dug up soon.

Know what sucks? Firetrucks that come along from the other direction and mess up the traffic light for three or four cycles. Bah. Know what else sucks? People who drive stupid! On the freeway today, there was a nice white van with a dangling exhaust pipe... every time it hit a bump, the exhaust pipe would drag on the ground. Driving while typing a text message? STUPID! Passing someone, only to merge in front of them and not let them in? Happened to the car in front of me, who decided to drive the next quarter mile with his finger hanging out the window. Also, Jesse needs to stop flipping my mirrors away from my car, or I'm gunna take his wiper blades. This means war!

I'm out of good rants and stories, so I think I'll stop here.

I could get used to all this nice weather. The past few days haven't been as bad as they promised to be, for me anyway. I know some people have had quite a case of the Mondays... meh. Hope that holds for the rest of the week, I have two jazz band "performances" which are going to suck. Apparently someone (Robertson) volunteered us to be the backup group for some collection of misfit district performing groups, none of which have practiced for more than 10 minutes. Bah... Maybe I'll feel sarcastic this weekend and post a review of the performance, maybe I'll block it from my memory.

Anyway... I finally got the rowing shell waxed and cleaned up, and it was really calm on the lake today, so I went for a row. I guess maybe I should have checked all the screws on the frame... bah. Yea, the part that holds my feet in came off, so I had a great time trying to fix it while balancing the oars and trying to reach the front of the frame... eventually had to row back holding on with my toes. Now I'll have to take the whole thing apart again... looks like I'll have a job this weekend.

Late arrival tomorrow, about time! Sleeping in for an hour or so, maybe more. Meeting some people at Krispy Kreme for breakfast, havent been there in quite a while.

What else... I feel like a long post. Suprising, don't get your hopes up for the next one. Guess I'll respond to the debate going on in my Tagboard. I'm not opposed to a taxbreak in the same way I'm not opposed to money... but I agree with Shaun that a taxbreaks right now might not be such a great idea. Our schools are almost up to mediocre, the roads don't suck too bad, the fire department comes to my house in less than an hour... but with less money, you get less services. Dan has a point about the defecit, have you been listening at all in history, Alex? Although, I do agree with your comment on the need for responsibility / accountability in Congress.

What else can I ramble on about... hmm... I'm running low on things I can talk about without insulting large groups of people or making some people very angry, so perhaps I will stop now. I'll post sometime when I get a chance, probably not until sometime this weekend.

Hmm... I promised a post today. Lets see.... already mentioned the wave of new links in the sidebar, seems this Blogging craze is catching on. (By the way, I missed the one year anniversary of my blog, it was back in February.) Anyway... quite a weekend. Thursday night was Jamba Juice and a movie night... 50 First Dates. Not bad, it had Adam Sandler, wasn't a waste of my $6. Friday was a day off school, worked around the house for a while, then I went to Nate's birthday party. Movies again that night. Saturday was skiing, it was great. Gotta love those 45 degree ski days, no wind, mostly sunny. Got a bunch of good runs in, probably my last trip up for the year. Last night was pretty good, how many balls do you usually use at Steakburger anyway? (3... or 4, one of each color... most of them are still out there somewhere...) Sharis sucked, because the waitress stopped bringing the free refills of mountain dew, so Jesse and I couldnt try to beat 6 glasses in an hour. Bah. Oh well... Now its time for a full week of school (with a nice late-arrival Thursday to break things up a bit).

Lots of new links today, see the sidebar. I'd post about my week so far, but I don't have time. Surprise! I'll post a "real" post tomorrow or Sunday.

Monday, March 08, 2004

Wow... so Jesse just told me they're selling $8 blue plunger mutes (its a brass instrument thing) at Beacocks... however, Fred Meyers has the same thing for $2. Ha. And they marked up Goose's old trombone by a good 170%. At these prices, you could buy an instrument online, then sell it to Beacocks at a good profit, $300 per instrument easy. Someone needs to start a new music store... somewhere where a 2 minute solder job isn't $16 and a screw isnt $5.

Anyway... band trip to OSU tomorrow. Could be interesting, could be better than school. Could really suck!

Gaaaa.... What an idiot. My brother decided he wanted to download some "game" but the firewall kept rejecting it... so he turned off the firewall. Anyway... now there's something eating my bandwith, I'm pretty sure its whatever he downloaded. He maintains that the firewall always blocks popups. I think he's getting it confused with the popup killer... although that would explain the amount of viruses and spyware that come from his account... Bah.

It was a weekend. That's about all I have to say, at least I didn't waste this one like I did last week. 4 day week! Yay!

Hmm... SMT senior project ideas due tomorrow. I think I've managed to find a project which will require only minimal work on my part: I'm going to analyze data on the AP tests to determine whether boys or girls score higher. That better work as a project, I phrased it so that it's actually a research question in the actual paper I have to give to Fleck.

Band concert was tonight, nice and short. Seriously, I love concerts that only last an hour. Nobody sucked either, a definate plus.

Updated the links in the sidebar, turns out I'd been putting links in the little dots next to the links... bah. Anyway... today I have a link: Internet speed test This is a good one to see if its the internet that's going slow, or just you. With Comcast, I'm getting 3195 kps download speed and 238 kps upload. Not bad, not bad at all!

Nothing like a dose of stupidity on a Monday evening. Look at the following question. Even if you know absolutely nothing about fitness (this is from my PE final) you should be able to figure out which answer is WRONG.

Amanda went on a cruise with her family to the Caribbean. She did not lift weights for fourteen days. What will she experience due to her lay-off?
a. hypertrophy
b. circumtrophy
c. atrophy
d. entropy
e. none of the above

The answer is obviously "c. atrophy", because the defination of atrophy is "the wasting away of a muscle or tissue, especially caused by lack of use." The answer the stupid PE teacher at BYU supplied as correct is "d. entropy" which is defined as "a measurement of randomness in a system."

While we're at it... here's the question that comes after that:

Sean always gets angry when his sister uses his stuff without asking. What would help him to not get so angry?
a. He needs to convince himself that he does not have to let it get to him.
b. He should take a time out to figure out the situation.
c. He should forgive and show love for his sister.
d. All of the above would help him.

I hate working with morons.
